How to Tell If You Are Getting a “Real” Psychic Message- Part I

When you are first beginning to develop your psychic abilities, you may wonder if the “messages” you receive are legitimate psychic sensations or if they are just coming from your imagination or your “ego”. Only you can truly discern what is a “real” psychic impulse for you. Each person is different and receives information in different ways. With time (and practice), you will eventually develop the awareness to know when you are receiving a legitimate psychic message and when it is simply your ego, fears, or delusions talking. In the meantime, here are some pointers that can help you.
A Legitimate Psychic Impulse is often accompanied by….
*Physical Sensations…..Tingling in the hands, face, head, and other parts of the body often accompany psychic insight or spirit communication. You may also notice changes in pressure or heat in the body, sudden coolness or sudden warmth, a sensation of weight being lifted or weight coming over you. Many people feel it in the same part of their bodies every time. However, for others, the physical sensations vary from time to time.
*An Emotional Shift…Often, you just feel “differently” when you are receiving a true psychic insight. If you were feeling anxious or nervous before, you may suddenly feel calm, or if you were feeling light and carefree before, you may feel as if you have entered into a sudden & unexpected serious phase. Even if your emotions do not radically shift, you are likely to feel that you are in a different, higher & more aware psychological state than you usually come from.
*An Element of Surprise or Unexpectedness…A true & accurate intuition will often provide you with a surprising or unexpected piece of information you did not previously have. Sometimes this “surprise” is quite mild, as in, “I suspected that might be true but thought I must be crazy for even thinking so….I’m surprised that it is actually true.”
Other times the element of surprise or unexpectedness can be even greater. In fact, there are times when we are so surprised by what we hear that we *resist* it, and do not wish for it to be true. However, resistance to a message should not automatically be construed to mean that this particular message is not true. In fact, quite the opposite is usually the case. Usually, the more resistant we are to a message, the more true it is for us.
It’s true that there are times when a legitimate psychic impulse confirms what we already knew. However, the deeper you get into using your psychic ability & intuition, the more likely it is that the way you think will eventually be challenged by something you receive. Remember that the purpose of listening to your intuition isn’t necessarily to validate your existing world view…the purpose is to get the guidance and information that you need to live a happier, more fulfilled life.
*A Sense of Detachedness….A legitimate psychic impulse usually comes from a place of calm or peace. If you are in the midst of extreme fear or anxiety when you receive a psychic impression, it is unlikely to be true. This does not mean that you cannot receive messages about impending danger. It just means that messages that come from a place of fear, paranoida, or anxiety are usually being generated by the human fight or flight response, and not by the more spiritual sophisticated inner psychic.
You will also find that legitimate psychic impulses are more likely to come when you are emotionally detached from the outcome of what you are asking about. If you feel rigid, anxious, or determined that a situation absolutely must turn out a certain way, or if you just have a very strong preference or investment in how things are going to be, then it makes it difficult for you to receive accurate psychic information. When you make up your mind ahead of time about how things will be, then the ego takes over and simply tells you what ever it is you want to hear.
This does not mean that you can’t have any preferences at all. It just means that it is helpful to be open to hear the truth, even if it doesn’t agree with the outcomes you prefer.
*Love & Non-Judgmentalism…A true spiritual psychic message comes in a loving, non-judgmental way. It does not encourage you to judge others or feel “better” than someone else. You might be uplifted and inspired by a legitimate psychic message. However, you would never be encouraged to criticize or look down upon others when you are truly connecting with your inner psychic. Here are two examples to show you the difference:
Legitimate psychic impulse: In your mind, you hear your inner psychic say….”You’re good enough to get this new job. You have wonderful skills and talents that are a perfect fit for this organization. If you act like your true self, you are guaranteed to get this position.”
Questionable Psychic Impulse (might be from ego): “You know you’re going to get this new job, because every one else that applied are total losers. They are all obviously underqualified, and if you just show up, someone there is bound to recognize how much better you are.”
See the difference? I hope so.
*Helpfulness…Authentic psychic insights are usually intended to be helpful & constructive. I personally have never had a legitimate psychic impulse that told me to do something that would be intentionally hurtful to myself or others. On the other hand, I *have* received guidance to do certain things that were inconvenient or uncomfortable for me at the time (such as come out publicly as a psychic or begin speaking in front of crowds). But even though this guidance made me feel uncomfortable, even downright *mad* at times, in the end it was very helpful, because I truly needed to do these things for my higher happiness.
