Thank You!

Many, many thanks to Rev. Rebecca Watson, Patti Stice, and Kathy Gillespie for a wonderful conclusion to our Fall Workshop season! So many folks came and enjoyed so many special experiences! What a blessing to have these three talented women share their gifts with us!

We are extremely grateful to all of the presenters of our Fall Workshops; Traci Bray and Betty Russell for our July event, Kevin Phillips for our August workshop, Rev. Charles Cox for our September workshop, Bunny Czarnopys and Gayl Edmunds for our October workshop, and Rev. Rebecca Watson, Patti Stice, and Kathy Gillespie for our November workshop. So much to learn from so many wise and wonderful teachers!!!

It is also appropriate at this time that we say thank you to all the attendees of these workshops, as well as the monthly classes and other events at Sunset Church. Your energy vitalizes the grounds, and your generous contributions provide the means for all of the improvements we are able to make. We made the decision in faith to offer events on a free will donation basis, so that financial means would not prevent anyone who wished to attend from doing so. What we have found is that all who come give as they are able, joyfully and from the heart, and Sunset Church has been blessed by your generosity. This financial support is also possible because of the workshop presenters who travel great distances, give of their time and talents, and do so as their donation to Sunset Church. We are truly blessed. Thank you one and all.

Welcome Rev Rebecca Watson
The conclusion of the November workshop weekend touched our hearts and brought great joy as we ordained Rev. Rebecca Watson as a Minister of Sunset Church. Rebecca has been an ordained minister in Indiana for many years, and requested that she also be ordained at Sunset Church and serve her beloved church in this way. She joins an elite group of dedicated and devoted bringers of the Light. Thank you, Rebecca, for choosing us. Welcome to the family. We love you. Click here to see the photos.

Keeping Up With The Board- President Karen Lyons

Karen Lyons
Dear Friends,

The December meeting of the Board of Trustees will be convened after a pot luck lunch following services on Sunday, December 4th.  As I mentioned last month, the Board discussed the need to finish the work on the old auditorium building.  That is the building that houses the camp office, snack bar, massage room, and several cabins.  A decision on a schedule to complete this project is up in the air.  The Board has several commitments for help with this project and will need help to get this completed.  Two cabins are involved in this project and with the monthly activity as well as Camp looming, timing is everything.  We will keep you posted on the details and logistics when we figure it all out.

The hardest part of planning Camp for me is deciding who to invite.  I'm glad I don't have a vote.  We simply can't invite everyone we would like.  Having said that, if you have someone in mind that you would like to see invited to serve at Camp 2012, please contact Linda Anderson, Dixie Hummel, or Mary Stewart.  Linda, Dixie, and Mary will serve the Board as the Camp Commitee.  If there is a subject you would like to see on the schedule as a class or if you would like to teach a class during Camp, contact the Camp Commitee.  If you would like to serve the Church as a Reader, volunteer, COOK, or other capacity contact the Camp Commitee.  It will be time for the Opening Ceremony sooner than you think.

A big thank you to Rev. Watson, Patti Stice, and Kathy Gellespie for a grand finale to our Fall Workshop season.  I have heard many good reports and was blessed myself to have attended.  Thank you.  Thank you.  Thank you.

For over a year I have been showing off the beautiful tourquoise thunderbird necklace created and donated to the Church by Charlie Greenlee of Lawrence.  As promised, at the conclusion of the November workshop, Becky Savage drew the winning ticket; Jan King.  There may be a bit of jealousy, but Jan looks so good in that necklace, Charlie must have created it just for her.  Charlie, thank you so much.  Not only was this a great way to raise money for the Church, it was sooooo much fun.  Jan, congratulations.

I am still waiting to hear from volunteers to clean the rain gutters on the Church building this Spring.  If you think this is something you could do, please let Ron or any Board member know.

Ho, ho, ho, 'tis the season.  Some may think it strange that the consensus of the Board along with our members is to cancel service on Christmas day.  But, consider that some of our members travel as much as four hours round trip to attend, all but a few travel some distance greater than twenty miles.  Christmas is the season we traditionally connect with family and friends.  It is my desire that each of you has a blessed Christmas day with those you love and who love you.  Though we have built quite a story around the day, the intention of the day is good.  Prior to the mythical birth of Jesus, God was seen as a vendictive entity waiting for a stub of a toe and a stumble to execute his power through wrath.  Kevin Phillips rarely forgets the give thanks for "the greatest gift of all" when he leads us in prayer.  That phrase always brings to my intention that which I percieve the greatest gift to be; the love of God made manifest to mankind through a man.  The gift of unconditional love.  A gift that is not nor can be earned, it is the Grace of God.  The gift of knowing God as a loving parent, or helpful partner not a vendictive watcher.  The birth of Jesus is a powerful story full of hope that this gift of love for all is not only attainable but has already been given to us all.  We are already full of the Spirit of love and children of the Light.  Now we must learn to unwrap that gift and put it to use.  I pray that we will be mindful of this gift in season and out of season.  I also thank each of you for helping me even if ever so slowly to unwrap this gift.  If I ever get it totally unwrapped, and learn to use it properly, I will awaken to a life of peace that passes understanding, and love beyond speech.

Have a Merry Christmas.

Weekly Development Classes Resume with Rev Evadne Tuxhorn
Rev Evadne TuxhornRev. Evadne requested retirement status this past year, and now here she is full steam ahead once again. We are not surprised. Evadne cannot help herself; she MUST teach!! She is resuming her weekly classes on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. at her home in Salina. Evadne has informed us that, among other subjects, she intends to explore the Spiritualist tradition of the trumpet seances, as there have been many questions recently about this phenomena and few of our current members have experienced this. Please contact Rev. Tuxhorn if you have questions or to enroll in her classes, 785-826-1633.
